Chukka Horseback Ride and Swim review

Our adventure at Falmouth Jamaica Port adventure
Chukka Horseback Ride and Swim

See Disney's Direct link for excursion here

$108 per person ages 12 & up

4-4.5 time frame.
45 minutes of this is the drive each way
Another 30 minutes from checking in for excursion onboard, walking through debarkation and meeting shuttle driver. Our driver was very entertaining. He gave good information on some lands we passed. He also gave some of his cultural insight! He was pretty fun!

I highly recommend being prepared and already in your swimsuit prior to the check in process.

Keep in mind, tips are accepted but not mandated for the shuttle drivers. They do let you know!
Also, tips are expected for the tour operators or guides as well. It is definitely up to you to tip or not!

The location does have a small HOT bathroom. They have HUGE mosquitos but they didn't actually land on me I realized. They were all over nonetheless which was gross. The bathroom had two small stalls. The sink barely worked. Bring sanitizer, Sunscreen, and a bug repellant.
You are given towels to take with you at the check in point. You do not need to bring your own unless you really want to. I would not bother bringing my own so as to not lose it.
Also, make sure to bring a water proof camera!!

Most people wore their shorts and swim top for entire ride. I wore a shirt and shorts over my swimwear. I only took my shirt off while doing the water ride portion.
I wore stretch shorts that had a longer length to them. They were also the quick dry material. I also wore strapped sandals.

Definitely recommend water shoes for the ride on both parts. For the Water ride portion, you can go without shoes.

The excursion was done in two parts; the trail ride and the water experience.  They divided our group into two. One group would do trail first and finish with water while the other group did it in reverse.

We did trail first for group I was in. I was glad since I rather be in the water afterwards instead of wet the entire time.

The landscape was gorgeous with some mountains in the back and also views of the ocean! So picturesque.

They do offer a locker rental @ $5. I did opt for this.

What to expect! The trail ride is about 45 minutes and the ocean portion is made 10 although it seemed longer. Plenty of guides were around for assistance.

We never ran or trotted on the horse, it was a leisure ride. The horses were also pretty behaved.

For the water, it was very interesting! The horse really breathed heavy which surprised me. I reviewed on line to see if it was ok for them. From what I read, some horses enjoy it. They never mentioned the labored breathing so it took most of us guests by surprise to hear this LOUD labored breathing. Hope it was ok!!!
We also realized the horses still poop even if in the water! So, yes, there was floating poop one could go through. I managed to dodge it. Others were not so lucky. It is always funny how perfect things can be portrayed yet the reality can be very different. It was still an amazing experience that I will cherish! Just me and my son did this adventure, it is something we can share as a found memory between us!
On another note in riding in the water. It is important how you hold on and you must really use your legs to do so! I did fine, my poor son did fall off. The guides were quick to assist. It can be dangerous to fall off since the swimming horse can more easily kick on accident under the water. He didn't have a problem luckily!

After the ride, we cleaned as best we could in their little bathrooms. I stayed in my clothes and just planned to change back on the ship.

They do have a little food stand with quick lunch items available to purchase. Snacks like chips and drinks were also available  Souvenirs were available such as magnets, T-shirts,  water shoes and hats. They were very reasonable in price! They accepted American dollars which was also a huge bonus!
I do recommend having cash for security purposes but they did also take cards.

They do also take pictures of you while in water if you want to buy them. They are reasonable for souvenir pictures. We chose not to however.

I highly recommend this adventure!!
