Disney's Coronado Springs Resort Review

DISNEY'S Coronado Springs resort

UPDATED since Grand Destino Tower opened:

The Grand Destino Tower

Well. Let me just say, it is definitely grand!

This new hotel addition to Coronado Springs is captivating. The design, architecture and colors are just beautiful. I enjoy the story of the direction that came to be in its design. They went back to Walt for the inspiration. It was not even just Walt but they had to tie in the Spanish culture to compliment this resort properly. They went back to Walt and Walt’s connection to Salvador Dali (Spanish and an amazing artist IMO). Walt and Dali were friends! What better inspiration could you pull from?!

This part of the resort is still listed as moderate but I deem it Deluxe worthy. The price also reflects deluxe as well! The comfort is all there from the rooms, bedding, bathroom and vanity areas. The Hotel entrance is grand, providing covered walk from car to lobby and into rooms. You don’t have to step foot outside to get to food court, lobby or even bus stop. The rooms are a tad smaller than the deluxe but not much. Majority of rooms will only sleep 4 unless you get suites which is an extreme jump in pricing. Keep in mind, this is a considered a conference resort so at times, you will see many people in business attire heading to their conference rooms. There are many lobbies dedicated for laptop/computer use which is great and again ties into the business use of the resort. It covers this business use in a very relaxed comfortable setting -not a stale rigid unpleasantness as some conference hotels do.

When we were there, there was a conference going on encompassing ‘on-body’ (a medical device-used for medicinal treatments) patients. I didn’t ask since I didn’t want to pry exact conference it was. We saw many guests there under the conference enjoying the resorts from adults to kids wearing their ‘on body’ device. It was nice being able to see them come together to share in their condition -able to enjoy the park with each other and their family. That is a perfect example of Disney.

Now, the food court was definitely Lacking however in service. Not necessarily food quality but strictly service. I understand if it is maybe just us it happened to and someone maybe just having a bad day, but this was not the situation. When one is standing ‘forever’ waiting to be assisted, you can’t help but observe all surroundings. The employees were molasses slow, in-efficient, no time management skills or customer service skills in assisting guests with food orders or even the preparation of the orders. Many guests were visibly annoyed but still patiently just waiting without complaining. Kudos to us this time! I was actually shocked to have not seen a guest being vocal in this situation. Another guest told me they dreaded going there because it was always like this. We went during a non-peak time and I couldn’t imagine how they deal with a real crowd. There was practically no one there when we went. I did tell the manager, I had to since it was just not acceptable. I was not ugly but explained our experience. I hope they improve this issue!!!

My only thought with this resort is I wish they would add another themed pool. They have a main themed pool and two other quiet pools. Everyone likes to go to the large themed pool however! With the new tower –the pool is now twice as crowded since you have so many more guests coming in. I have never seen a pool at Disney so crowded. It would be nice if they added some special theming to one of the other pools in order to draw the crowds evenly to the pools. We could barely get a lounge chair.

I’ve been to this resort several times and my first time there, I swore I would never go back.
After several years, I did decide to give it another chance and ever since then I have been loving the resort!
Coronado is a moderate resort but also is one of the conference resorts Disney offers.

They are currently in process of building a resort tower to add to their room offerings.
This resort has a fairly large ground cover but I never thought it was any more excessive than the other resorts. I felt it was about the same but I don’t tend to dwell on walking. I just have always equated Disney World to walking.

I love their pool! Super cute theme (aztec pyramid) and fun slide.
Direct transportation to and from parks.
Great restaurant and quick service option.
The resort rooms are still under refurbishment. The newly transformed rooms are fabulous. They are comparable to the deluxe but just a tad smaller and no Murphy bed offerings unfortunately for the larger families.
Coronado (being a Conference resort) does offer suites that many people are unaware of.
These suites are absolutely fabulous!!

Now, they have an extreme amount on construction going on. Mainly to the right side of the building but also all the rooms themselves are being heavily remodeled (as all the resorts will be getting similar upgrades). The floors are being changed from carpet to vinyl wood flooring, Mattresses are being replaced (oh my gosh, so much comfier!), Hardware such as cabinets/bathroom counters etc are being replaced! If you are in a section where more construction is going on, it may not be the prettiest of views. We could see all the construction areas but we never encountered any construction actually taking place. We never saw a single worker---Maybe I was lucky though??

We were lucky enough to get a remodeled room! I LOVED it! I loved it as much as a deluxe room I must admit for half the cost. My son still commented that he still preferred the deluxe resort. His main reason is the room entrance. Most (not all) deluxe resorts offer room access from within the hotel while all moderates or values the room access is from outside. The Deluxe resorts(DVC) that have outside room access are Old Key West & Saratoga. He felt it was more secure and I could not argue with him!

One more note; we had a room that had a connecting room door. Now normally other resorts I have stayed at, rooms with this door seem to be thin and all the noise from next room seeps through. Luckily, this was not the case. I believe I heard our neighbors once and it was just barely that I heard them.

Check out some of the pictures from a great friend of mine who was magically upgraded to the executive suite (2 BEDROOM SUITE) !!
Lucky thing!!! I was so happy for her!!
I have also included some regular room pictures from some of my recent stays.
