Disney Horse Barn review

I must be honest!
I love animals, so any chance I can get to go visit Disney's Tri-Circle D Ranch I will take it!

Fun Fact!
This Ranch pretty much houses all of Disney's horses. Any horse that needs to be trained or welcomed into any of the Disney's parks will first come through Tri-Circle at Walt Disney World! It has been a part of Disney since they opened in 1971!

They keep Cinderella's Ponies here as well as the working horses.

Of course for only $8.00 your little one can enjoy a guardian led pony ride. $12.00 will get you two laps around. We have enjoyed this several times but sadly this last visit was our last ride since our little one is now officially too tall! BOOOOO We have loved these little ponies.
We did accidentally pet them several times until we saw the obvious signs that clearly say, ' Do not pet'! oops. The signs are only facing on the outside of the fence and not the inside where you would be tempted to do the deed! They should rethink the placement of these signs, just sayn'.

The regular trail horses are located at the Main entrance of the Campgrounds. That is also where the Horse trails are offered.

The big/working horses are located by Pioneer Hall, behind the ponie housing. They house three breeds of working horses; Belgian, Percheron & Clydesdale. Easiest way to tell difference in breed is by the coloring. Belgian are usually a deep red, Percheron are typically a dapple gray or black and the Clydesdales are the brown/auburn. All are beautiful.

A free daily tour is offered at 12:30pm! Keep in mind, this tour can also be cancelled at any time without notice, as I found out. (not happy). I was oh so nicely reminded that they could cancel at any time since it was free (even 5 minutes prior to, even though a sign was up offering it).... I do believe that wasn't necessarily the way a Disney Cast Member should speak but we were in a barn, soooooo......

I was luckily able to make it another day and they did indeed hold the tour. It is a 30 minute tour that provides a little history of Walt and his love of horses. He did play Polo for a while until an injury really put a stop to it. We learned how This Barn basically kept up with all the Disney horses located across all Disney Parks. I thought that was interesting. I had just assumed each park would provide a full barn but that is not true. They obviously have a barn to hold them but no training or facilitating is done outside of that at any of the other parks. They also went over the care of these horses. They are treated really well. They do retire them by adopting them out to qualifying recipients in order to live out their days in a loving home/environment. Disney retains the right to check on them as well!

I definitely recommend going out there to visit this cool treat. It is free, educational and fun!

Thursdays, their blacksmith comes out to provide maintenance.

At the end of our tour, we were able to meet one of their horses! We were even allowed to pet him! Zilly was the one we met. He was unbelievably soft! SO soft! So gentle! We were just thrilled!

The historical Calliope is also housed here. It was bought by Disney in 1940 to use for the Mickey Mouse Club House as well as parades around the states. It was also used for the opening of Disneyland!
It works like a giant organ grinder as it is pulled down the streets by the working horses.
You can push a button to hear the tune it would play! We were SO incredibly lucky when we were there! Normally it resides behind a huge glass door. They had to open the door to it to turn off the tune/button while offering their tour. The cast member offered to take our picture next to this treasure! WOW! Talk about pixy dust! To be next to such history is a blessing!

Go check out this amazing place, I know you will love it!
