Disney & Meal Sharing

A Client asked me about meal sharing with Table service restaurants and I thought it was a good time for a reminder on how Disney Handles this.

Quick service is always up for guests to share when paying out of pocket or even when using the Dining plan.

Table service is another story and can be tricky.

For any regular table service meal, people can share meals. Disney will tell you 'no' officially as their answer to this.
Per Disney, Only a child under 3 is allowed to share off a plate at any dining location.

So, what can you do that is unspoken & allowed?
Say, you have a party of 2, one can order a meal and the other can order a drink, appetizer, salad or what not. The other person can definitely provide the other person the remainder of their meal if they are done with it. This is, without question, allowed.

You could have the same scenario except person 2 doesn't want to order any food.
This is allowed as well. They could even eat some of the first person's meal if that person is done with it. Don't expect Disney to provide an extra plate for this however. Remember it is technically something they do not offer. You could also happen to get a stickler waiter/ess that may decide to remind you of it. I am sure if they do this, they are basically not expecting too much of a tip.

This is also true for signature restaurants which require 2 dining credits.

The majority of Disney's restaurants do not charge a table fee if not ordering anything.

When can you NOT do this, when using the Dining plan. It is strictly forbidden to share a meal at table service locations. Of course, you can share a bite for tasting purposes however.

I have never tried to see how they would handle a guest that would try to do this, nor would I.. I would not have the nerve or mindset to!!!

Locations that would not allow a guest to take up a seat without ordering a meal or being charged for a meal are the pre-set Fixed dining experiences; Buffets, Dinner Shows and Unique Dining experiences.
Some examples of these places include 'Ohana (breakfast & Dinner) , Trattoria al Forno (Bon Voyage~breakfast), Cinderella's Royal Table and Be Our Guest(dinner, which is changing to a 2 dining credit table service pre-fixed dining experience) starting July 27th.

One other type of dining experience where this would not be allowed is Whispering canyon. You could technically share a meal here unless the said meal of choice is the 'All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Skillet' which is similar to a pre-fixe meal for '1' person as a menu Al la carte option.... This is strictly for one person and not to be shared! If you see this or similar options at other Table service Dining locations, please know/understand this is not to be shared.

Hope this helps!!
