Disnny Pretzel recipe tried and review by Dealing with Disney

We made the Disney Pretzel recipe:

Here is the recipe and I am putting in my thoughts under it for what worked and didn’t work for us.
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 2/3 cups baking soda
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 ounces butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
Directions
  1.  Combine water, sugar, and salt in a large bowl, and sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit for 5 minutes or until the mixture begins to foam. Add the flour and butter, and mix on low speed until well-combined. Add a ½ cup of rainbow sprinkles. Mix on medium speed for about 4-5 minutes until dough is smooth and pulls away from the side of the bowl.
  2.  Remove dough from bowl. Clean the bowl and spray with oil. Return dough to bowl and cover with a tea towel, and let it sit in a warm place for about 50-55 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size.
  3.  Preheat oven to 450˚F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with oil.
  4.  Bring a medium pot of water and the baking soda to a rolling boil.
  5.  Turn dough out onto a slightly oiled surface and divide into 16 equal pieces. Roll out each piece into a 12-inch rope. Loop a dough rope to form a circle in the middle, but with about 2 inches of dough on the ends. Roll the dough ends into coils on top of the circle to form a Mickey shape. Place onto prepared baking sheet. Repeat for remaining pieces.
  6.  Use tongs to place pretzels into boiling water, one by one, for 15 seconds. Remove from water and place onto lined pan. Brush tops of pretzels with beaten egg and sprinkle with more rainbow sprinkles and sugar.
  7. Bake until dark golden brown, about 10-13 minutes. Transfer to cooling rack for 5 minutes before serving.

Now:
This did not make the Disney Shape pretzel, it made little mini Disney pretzels. SO it was a little disappointing.. I could not find the link any longer on the Disney Parks Blog (BOO)
However, they did turn out very tasty!!
This recipe has a sugar sprinkling. We didn’t do this. I wanted the standard pretzel.
  1. We didn’t use the rainbow sprinkles. It would add color and should not affect the taste.
  2. We just rubbed the oil in the bowl. Lightly. Tea towel – aka – hand towel or kitchen towel.
  3. Again, we just lightly hand rubbed the oil on parchment paper.
  4. We didn’t do this step until we completed step 5.
  5. We had to flour our hands when handling the dough. The ropes of dough can be longer than the 12’ but the thickness should be around half an inch diameter. Recipe doesn’t say this.. We also realized we could make our own shapes since the Mickey heads didn’t always look the best.
  6. Now, this is the most absurd part.. You can’t use tongs on dough… We used a spatula to place the pretzel into the boiling mixture (step 4). This is also why I recommend making the pretzels small enough to fit on the spatula.. When placing the dough in the boiling mixture -I totally submerged it and kept the spatula under it. When it was in the boil long enough, the dough would float up. At this time, I used the spatula to lift it back out and then slid it onto the prepared baking pan. I would occasionally need to use a knife to help it slide it off. I also tapped it to rid extra water from it before sliding it over. We sprinkled the tops with salt instead of sugar. Kosher salt is best.
  7.  They turned out pretty tasty! Everyone gave two thumbs up!
For Re-heating, we placed them in air fryer; 2 minutes and added an extra minute if needed.

I also so used this amazing pimento spread on mine, so make sure to try any preferrable spread to add extra personalized delight!
