Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter resort review by Dealing with Disney

This beautiful resort perfectly captures the real French Quarter of New Orleans with its architectural design &
beauty.
I truly enjoy this resort from, its peaceful but lively feel.
This resort sits next to Disney’s Port Orleans River Side resort but is a smaller resort.  (see my review of Riverside HERE)

This is a dog friendly resort as well. You can pay extra to have your dog stay with you here. Don’t be surprised if you see many dogs around the resort grounds. ($50.00 per night for the pet fee-See current Disney rules HERE)

The resort offers Disney Bus transportation to/from the parks but they do have a boat that takes you to Disney Springs. The boats also will take you to Riverside resort in case you need to visit there. It is considered a Disney Springs resort in regard to resort grounds location of the Walt Disney World Resort properties.

Like all the other resorts, fun kid/family interactions are offered here daily from making Mardi Gras masks, handing out beads, Movie night, character meet and greets, making tie-dye shirts or other fun events. ALWAYS look at your resort weekly flyer to know what is happening during your stay.  This flyer is always available at the front desk but also usually placed in your room on arrival as well.

Some fun special perks offered at this resort:
Beignets!!! Yes, this is the only location you can find Disney Mickey shaped beignets served within their food court. During different seasons, they will sometimes throw an extra flavor to offer. They typically stop selling them at 3pm, so make sure to arrive before that If you have a hankering!

Beignet Run! Yes, on Sundays, this resort offers a short family friendly run.
Officially called the Port Orleans Beignet Dash, check with resort for registration times/dates/fees since everything can and will change..
Here is the norm however for the event.
TO register: check at the resort’s front desk or call 407-WDW-PLAY, needs to be done at least 1 day prior.
The fee to participate is/was $15.00 per person.
The Dash takes place on Sunday mornings with a check in time of 7:30 am  behind the French quarter pool.
You will receive an official race bib for the event at registration check-in.
The Dash starts at 8am, going along French Quarter and Riverside resort grounds only totaling approximately 1.5 miles (2.5km).
Winnings: You get a beaded necklace that has a charm attached showing event name. Your bib also has a voucher for a free beignet! That is a definite WIN.

Of course, this will depend on weather but if cancelled due to weather you will get refunded.
Photo ops are available.
The beignet vouchers expire at end of the day!!! Don’t let them go to waste!

Of course you can always try to make your own beignets with Disney's recipe : RECIPE

These rooms only hold up to 4 adults, so-NO rooms available over 4 guests; 2 queen beds or a single king bed is offered! If you have a larger party you may need to consider multiple rooms or Riverside which can hold up to 5 guests.
They offer the standard room categories: standard view(parking lot), garden view, water view or pool view. The grounds are small to me. The view option is your only benefit in paying the upgrade of category NOT the proximity to main building. This is my personal opinion.

The resort offers a general Food court and it is smaller than other value/moderate food courts. Since it is in general a smaller resort, it makes sense for their food court to be smaller as well. They still offer plenty of options or a short walk/boat ride over to riverside which offers a larger food court or table service option. You also have the ability to take the boat over to Disney Springs for a wide array of food options.

I really loved this resort. I have no negative comments on it. It is a moderate resort. The entry into the rooms is from outside. This is one thing I love about some of the deluxe resorts, the rooms are entered through the main resort building versus an outside entry. (some not all). I have always felt safe while on a Disney Property.

The busses can take 30-60 minutes to/from the parks. Sometimes longer depending on if you just missed a bus, crowd level or time of day. The busses do share between French quarter and Riverside which tacks on the extra minutes. Busses run every 15-20 minutes. They run direct from resorts to designated park. Make sure to always allow proper transportation time. The minutes add up quicker than most guests realize.
